How fabulous to be treated like my opinions mattered and to be exposed to fascinating classroom discussion with a whole bunch of really sharp people. That is how I remember my year studying the HDPM (as it was called then) in 1987.
Loet Douwes-Dekker was an absolute maestro in challenging the views of the class in regard to labour issues and opening our minds to new ideas.
I benefited immensely from my interaction with older and more experienced students and it was good background for my subsequent career in politics
“The MBA was indeed an occasion in my life!” I remember Buzz, the resident cat, who often adopted interesting poses at the front of the lecture theater while grooming himself. Mark Addleson once commented during an Economics lecture, “Cats have no sense of occasion!” The MBA was indeed an occasion in my life!
Truly the most challenging and amazing 2 years which provided the foundation for my career. Many in our class excelled in business, all excelled as leaders of all kinds. I am honoured to be a Wits Business School alumni.
