Dr Gerald Levin, PDM, 1993

Congratulations, WBS, on your 50th year celebrations!

In 1992, events exposed our class to very exciting political events. We had two superb politics teachers. Prof Schlemmer and Prof van Zyl Slabbert! The PDM training assisted me in opening a medical practice in 1993, the year after graduating. From 1993 to 1997 I was an anxious witness to the growing, uncontrolled HIV epidemic.

In 1997, I began working on two projects, at the request of the London Commonwealth Office: The first project entailed Health System Strengthening to manage HIV/Aids in South Africa. The second project was to facilitate Commonwealth expansion to include Israel and Jordan.

At the Wits Alumni General Assembly held on 24 September 2005, I received a BSc (Hons) AND MBBCh degree on one certificate (for political contribution)!
